Welcome to the WWRF web site!
The WWRF website is the place to find out more about our current, future and past activities. This includes important information on upcoming events such as our special workshops at IEEE Healthcom and IEEE VTC Fall. Globally there is a rush of activity in development and experimentation with 5G technologies, and an ongoing debate as to how to meet the requirements of the various vertical industries that will make use of 5G. WWRF members are closely involved in all these discussions, and publications such as our Outlook series are a good guide to them.
In addition to the VIP programme of working groups focused on vertical industry requirements, new working groups are being set up to address key technology questions, such as the use of higher frequencies above 5GHz and the application of network slicing to 5G networks. Discussion of these questions will be a highlight of our next WWRF meeting, WWRF37 in Kassel, Germany on 5-7 October, which would be a great place to introduce your organization to WWRF if you are not already a member. Of course, the website also contains all the required information for prospective members, including form and details of membership fees and benefits.
WWRF meeting 36 in Beijing
WWRF held its 36th meeting in Beijing with the theme ‘5G – New Markets and Challenges’ as part of a week of 5G-related events in Beijing which included the first Global 5G Forum. Members, contributors and guests were treated to a wide range of presentations, panels and working group sessions covering all aspects of the wireless world. The centrepiece was a joint session with the Future Forum (http://www.future-forum.org/en/), which culminated in the official launch of a white paper entitled ‘5G Enabler: High Mobility Support’ which outlines the requirements on 5G to support high mobility scenarios such as on board railway trains, and the technologies that could support them. Other highlights included intense discussions on forthcoming WWRF white papers, on millennial users, connected vehicles, e-health and on networks supporting traffic variation.
WWRF in Caribbean Region
WWRF was invited to make a presentation at Commonwealth Telecommunication Organization’s Broadband Caribbean Forum 2016 hosted by the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad & Tobago (TATT) that took place in Port of Spain on 14 – 15 July, 2016. The theme of the conference was “Supporting Life in the 21st Century”. Read more >>>
New Working Group "High-Frequency Technologies"
A new working group was launched to provide a discussion platform/thinktank, by engaging a critical mass of experts from industry, regulators and academia, in order to investigate/ understand the trends, requirements, enablers and challenges in the specification, design, optimization and adoption of high frequencies radio technologies in future wireless networks. MIMO techniques have become very popular in modern wireless communication systems. It is however very difficult to measure and model MIMO channels with multiple transmitting and receiving antennas, due to many technical limitations and challenges such as accurate antenna synchronization, super-fast data measurement and storage, and parallel data processing. >>>
NGMN Industry Conference and Exhibition 2016
The event features the announcement of leading, international operators’ and vendors’ requirements for the future 5G technology platform. This will be complemented by an in-depth presentation of new 5G enabled business opportunities and use-cases introduced by executives and subject-matter experts. WWRF will be an event partner.
